Thank you so much for reading and watching.įeel free to share the link with others, who might enjoy it too. What version of this song and musical arrangement do you know and love? I would be interested to hear from you in the comments below. Sometimes the song is called “The Water of Tyne” and I have seen a version of the lyrics where the last line reads “Or scull him across that broad water to me.” Or scull him across that rough river to me. The waters of Tyne run between him and me,Īnd here I must stand with a tear in my eye ( pronounced ee…),īoth sighing and sickly my sweetheart to see.Īnd I will remember the boatman and thee.īring me the boatman and I’ll pay any money,Īnd you for your troubles rewarded shall be, I cannot get to my love if I should die (pronounced dee…), Hopefully it won’t be our last opportunity to write collaboratively together. These are the lyrics I am used to singing: The Waters of Tyne I’m really happy with the way we have managed a song which seems to be both reflective and uplifting.

I am so grateful for Craig’s initial creativity and subsequent generosity and invitation … all of which has led me – as Craig has also done today on his own blog – to offer it to you. Brian Wren’s Hear hangs a man discardedis one of these.īut … but … with a couple of Dale exceptions … these have never quite been true collaborations.

The young people worked with me on plot and song lyrics. back in my younger days (think late 1970s/early 80s) running a weeklong “write a musical” elective at a synod (statewide) youth camp.Eventually Craig and I (Craig in Adelaide, me in Brisbane) began the collaborative journey.įew of the 350 songs these past 40 years have been true collaborations. I, along with others, offered to supply the melody. Fast forward into late last year, and Craig ‘put it out there’ on the songwrite Facebook page. Craig began working on it at songwrite in February 2013, songwrite being the first national Uniting Church songwriters gathering. Dale has done a great job (biased as I am) with the vocals. Here’s a new song the result of a collaboration between longtime friend Craig Mitchell (lyrics) and myself (melody & backing).
